Leonardo da Vinci, Migos & Procrastination.

Hi, my name is Karli and I’m a procrastinator…when it comes to schoolwork. I’m sure as you might have already guessed I’m currently procrastinating right now writing this blog instead of writing my project proposal (shocker).
Alright, so do I actually think my paper is a true gem…not in the slightest but I’m a perfectionist so I don’t think I’ll ever feel that way towards a writing assignment. Isn’t that a weird concept though; I’m a perfectionist yet I procrastinate? Also, who knew you could “feel” a certain way about a writing assignment? I mean I understand that we read things that move us (like my blogs for example…only kidding) but when it comes to your own work do you ever walk away feeling completely satisfied?
Now my mind is wandering, when Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa did he look at her and say “danngggg girl you look good” put his brush down and walk away? Or better yet, when Migos wrote the final lyric to “Get Right Witcha” did he utter to himself “mann this song is gonna be a banger.” To answer those questions, first of all Leonardo is dead (RIP) and contrary to popular belief I actually don’t have Migos number otherwise I would ask him. And I’m sure he probably doesn’t talk like that either. BUT my point is when it comes to art, I’m including writing here people, does the creator or “artist” in this case ever feel completely satisfied with their final product?
Here is my example, when I took an interpersonal communication course we went through a chapter about compliments. My teacher pointed out that whenever we receive a compliment it is in our nature to contradict the compliment. Think about it… when someone tells you good job let’s say relating to your sports performance usually you respond with thank you and then point out an area where you messed up. We feel grimy fully accepting a compliment without pointing out a flaw embedded within it. Odd right? I think the same goes for art or in my current situation...writing assignments.
Now that I’ve Googled Leonardo da Vinci and read through the lyrics of “Get Right Witcha” (which has confirmed I’ve been singing the wrong words) I realize that my paper isn’t going to write itself. Maybe something to work on for the future is starting to write ahead of time instead of procrastinating and also owning my work (or compliments...if given). Obviously, not everyone is going to like your painting, music or writing assignment (fingers crossed my professors do) but I think embracing that it’s something YOU created and going with it makes it seem that much more appealing. Stand up for your work and don’t let people tell you it’s wrong or clarify the “right way” to do it. I mean it is art and isn’t art supposed to be expressed and interpreted differently?
